Coastal Horseback Adventures

Frequently Asked Questions

Is cantering allowed on trips?
Yes.  Rider ability and conditions permitting, cantering is allowed.  If groups of riders have different preferences for gaits we have enough guides to divide the group.

Can I stay in my own camper/LQ?
Yes.  There are limited spaces available at Friendly Acres.

Will my horse be stabled in a secure area?
Yes.  Each horse will have its own shelter and paddock in a locked fenced facility with caretakers.

Beach Ride Clinic

My horse has limited trail experience.  Is that OK?
Yes.  You and your horse will finish the weekend with greater trail-riding confidence.

What about non-riding friends and family who may want to accompany me?
Accommodations in the Half Moon Bay Lodge are based on double occupancy. There is no extra charge for a guest.  Half Moon Bay itself is a tourist destination with San Francisco and Monterey an easy day trip.  Rental cars are available in Half Moon Bay.

What times do rides start and return?
The Redwood ride leaves the Friendly Acres at 9 AM and returns at about 5 PM.  The beach ride leaves Friendly Acres at 9:30 AM and returns at about 3:30 PM.

I am coming from a long distance can I leave on Monday morning after the rides?
Yes.  Arrangements will need to be made ahead of time and there will be an extra charge for hotel and stabling.

Winter Beach Ride

Are Easy Boots or their equivalent allowed on the rides?
Yes.  However they are not allowed on the beach itself because sand accumulates in them and abrades the horses heel bulbs.

Besides basic tack, what do I need to bring?
Saddle or pommel bags and sturdy lead ropes with a halter are required for the rides.

What other items should I bring?
You should bring sunscreen and consider bringing insect repellent for you and your horse.

What is the maximum number of guest horses allowed on a trip?
Six.

What meals are provided?
Breakfast for guests staying in the Half Moon Bay Lodge and lunch for everyone are provided on Saturday and Sunday.  Dinners are left open for people to explore the many fine local restaurants.

What if I don't have a horse?
Our insurance requires that our riders own the horse they ride. However if you would enjoy a breath taking ride in San Mateo CountyParks and Midpeninsula Regional Open Space Districts, we highly recommend Bay Area Ridge Riders.
