Coastal Horseback Adventures Guides

Larry De Young has been training wranglers and leading trail rides since 1976 when he led the trail riding program of the University of Wisconsin Hoofers Riding Club.

He is a member of several state and county volunteer horse patrols on the San Mateo Coastside. His primary vision for Coastal Horseback Adventures is to help riders gain more confidence in themselves and their horses, while at the same time having fun.

Willa Chapman has managed the largest public horseback riding stables on the California Coast for the last 20+years and has trained both horses and wranglers for work on those ranches. She is also a breeder of championship American Paint Horses. Her training program utilizes equestrian trails and beaches.

While watching her young horses learn to handle the unanticipated developments on the trails and beaches, and become confident and secure in the process, the seeds for Coastal Horseback Adventures were sown. The empowerment of both horses and riders as they learn to control fear and insecurity and turn each into a learning tool is her goal for these adventures--along with enjoying the unmatched beauty and excitement which comes from riding amongst our Coastal Redwoods and on our magnificent San Mateo County beaches.

Inside CHA: an intimate look

Horseback riding is of course a social experience so we hope you will enjoy learning a bit about our gang!

Willa and Larry of course are the alpha leaders. What more can we say?

Josie has seniority in the trail dept. and Cass is the elegant matriarch of the operation, now gently ridden in her later years.

Leanna Young with Chocolate

TESS LEE with DIABOLITO, her mustang who is BFF with the thoroughbred CHOCOLATE (pronounced Choc-o-latte, he is pretty strict about this) in the photo on the right. Being a tb he has a tatoo on his lip which Diabolito thinks is very cool. Diabolito is a wild boy from Nevada.

LEANNA YOUNG with her thoroughbred, CHOCOLATE (Spanglish pronunciation please.) Chocolate (who had some bad habits from the track) and Willa struggle with their caffeine addictions. Chocolate is hoping a well known socially responsible coffee house chain will sponsor them. Chocolate has never told us his racing name.

Haley and Cookie.

HALEY BENNET with her blue roan quarterhorse COOKIE
Cookie copes with the jealousy of the other herd mares because of her exquisite blue roan color and the fact that she can eat all those cookies and not get fat. Hey, we're not perfect!

SCARED?

We are all about empowerment!

We get you past the fear of trail riding and explode your horse owning enjoyment!
